Domains of practice
Exhibition catalogues, curatorial texts, artist statements, and museum labelling.
Verse translated with attention to metre and register, in both directions.
Applied linguistics and education material, abstracts, and conference papers.
Documentary scripts, subtitles, and promotional material for the Asir Region.
Live lecture interpreting into SSL and ASL for deaf undergraduates.
University communication, correspondence, and official documentation.
Method
Every commission begins with the reader, not the sentence. A catalogue destined for an international audience is not rendered the way an academic abstract is; a line of verse is not rendered the way an official letter is. The register, cadence, and cultural reference of the source are carried across so that the English reads as though it were written first in English — while remaining answerable, word for word, to the Arabic.
Endorsement of the translation work
"Distinguished in poetry and translation, and a devoted promoter of Asir's tourism and heritage. He translated three national exhibition catalogues for our society."
